BY LAURA @LA_FOSS

There’s something special about fall isn’t there?

When it’s in the low 60s and I’m wearing my favorite chunky oversize knit sweater that’s a rich shade of orange and I’m walking my dog in the crisp afternoon while the wind pricks my cheeks, there is something about fall.

To say this year has been hard is an understatement, and yet, with the first crunch of a leaf, I feel lighter. In the Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald said, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”

To me October has always been the most magical month. In fact, I have been playfully referring to the month as “Rocktober” since college. I don’t know why, but no matter how I feel, when October approaches I am always filled with hope and dreams and love. The chilled air somehow brings everything into focus and things that seem to weigh me down slip away. I know I sound hopeful or at the very least like a Studio Ghibli character that has spent the day dreaming about clouds, but the truth is I love believing in the simple magic this month brings. I love how the light grows softer and magic hour lasts a little long. I love how every morning is filled with possibilities and every night is awake with dreams.

And if I’m being honest, perhaps I need that special October magic a little more this year. I think we all do.

Fall is also filled with so many of my favorite things: long walks, chunky sweaters, the rich color pallet, and an absurd amount of plaid. I hope this mood board reflects that.

In November of last year, I went to Copenhagen, and it was everything. I spent my days wondering the city, exploring castles, taking in art, I saw the Queen, and I got lost because I have the absolute worst sense of direction and I absolutely loved every second of it. Some of the pictures you see here are what I saw around Copenhagen because the city and Denmark are breathtaking. Every corner of the city feels like a well loved sweater. I wanted to incorporate them because they bring back so many fond memories, and when you're creating a mood board it should be full of things you love, good memories, colors, pictures that make you smile, and things that inspire you.

Perhaps the goal this fall, with everything being so big, is to make a point of bringing joy into your life even if it's just small ways. This year has taken a lot, but I hope you've found things too. I hope you rediscovered something you loved, learned a new skill, spent more time talking and listening than just texting, and maybe you just spent moments where you just stopped, focused on your breath and felt grateful for your body. So this season, when everything feels new and full of possibilities, I hope you set aside some time to do things you love and bring you happiness.

My favorite colors that I am looking forward to wearing his fall are shades of pinks, reds, yellows/golds, oranges, and browns sprinkled with plaids and buffalo check. Then to finish off the look I want all the texture: chunky knits, faux leather and velvets.

Here are some songs to get your October started on the right foot:

- "Dreams” by The Cranberries

- "Autumn Tree” by Milo Green

- "The Secret Life of Daydreams” from the Pride & Prejudice soundtrack & like every song on the Pride & Prejudice Soundtrack

- Folklore by Taylor Swift (Let's be honest, you're already listening to this album)

- "Julia (or 'Holy to the LORD' on the Bells of Horses)" by mewithoutyou
